Work Requirement

Membership in the Cobble Hill CSA requires 1-2 work shifts during distribution hours, depending on total membership, each shift running 1.75 hours.

Read About shifts then schedule your shift by clicking here.

The CSA is a volunteer-run cooperative with no paid staff, and we depend on the help of our members, especially during the season to distribute shares each Tuesday. Responsible participation is critical to our operations. The CSA functions solely on our work commitment to each other.

Running this season under Covid 19 safety precautions presents different issues which everyone in the cooperative should assist in managing for the welfare of every member involved.  In filling a site distribution work slot, you are filling an “essential” worker roll. Please be aware that the CSA has older members and others who may be more at risk and thus may not be able to work a shift this season.  However, no member should risk potential exposures to Covid 19 during CSA distribution and so we ask that everyone working and picking up follow current guidelines as given by NY State and the CDC.

All members must wear masks, to pick up their shares or to work the shift. We also ask that before starting any work shift, you wash your hands in the church lavatory. Hand sanitizer is available at the site for use, as well as gloves and masks.

We have done our best to cut down the number of members needed for this season’s work shifts and hope to keep the commitment to 1 shift per share. However, this will depend on the total membership once rolling sign up ends and may require the regular 2 shifts per share.

GENERAL NOTES ABOUT THE COOPERATIVE WORK REQUIREMENT

  • Members register for their work shifts online here: Schedule Work Shifts    You will receive a reminder of your upcoming shift at the email address you provided the Wednesday prior to your shift.
  • If your schedule changes after you receive the Wednesday reminder and you are unable to complete a shift for which you previously registered, you are responsible for finding another member to cover your shift.  To do so, you can email the membership at cobblehillcsa2020members [AT] googlegroups.com
  • During work shifts, members may be asked to lift heavy items such as folding tables.  If physical labor is challenging for you, please notify the work shift coordinator so he/she is able to assign you to alternative tasks or help you schedule your shift when there is a second member present. Conversely, if you feel able to do some heavy lifting, please do not hesitate to volunteer!
  • During your cooperative work shift, school age children may benefit from the experience of  “helping”, however, please do not bring young children who require constant supervision. If you have questions regarding children at work shifts, please contact the Work Shift Coordinator.
  • If you can’t find a shift that fits your abilities, please contact the Work Shift Coordinator for an alternate task to support the CSA behind-the-scenes operations.

WEEKLY WORK SHIFTS:

[Opening Shift] 4:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.,

[Closing Shift] 6:00 p.m.to 7:45 p.m.

To sign up for your work shift commitments please click here .

You should sign up for your initial shift by the date of your first distribution. Please select open days earlier in the season. Depending on membership numbers, members may be needed to work a 2nd work shift. If needed, our Work Shift Coordinator will promptly notify all members.

Opening Shift (4:15 p.m. to  6:00 p.m.)

1. 4:15 collect key, open church, set out sign.

2. Wearing mask, manage handout of vegetable boxes and fruit bags, as members keep proper social distancing per required/recommended by NYS under Covid19 prevention measures.

3. As boxes/bags are collected, verify membership names on weekly distribution list.

4. Collect/answer members’ questions.

We anticipate that one member will be needed weekly for this roll until later in the season when the day is shorter and the shares are heavier. In scheduling only one member it become more necessary that the member fully commits to the responsibility of the commitment to their scheduled work shift.  Please note that this shift may require some lifting, as share boxes are brought forward. The load should be limited to one share-box at a time.

Closing Shift (6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.)

1. Take over distribution from Opening Shift Member.

2. Wearing mask, manage handout of vegetable boxes and fruit bags, as members keep proper social distancing, as is required and recommended by NYS under Covid19 prevention measures.

3. As boxes/bags are collected, verify membership names on weekly distribution list.

4. Collect/answer members’ questions.

5. At 7:30, take down sign and store in church storage area,
along with the members check list for the day.

6. Consolidate any uncollected share boxes/bags for pick up by Emma’s Torch.

7. Clean and store folding table and replace any church chair used. Wait for core-member to arrive and lock up the church.

One to two members needed weekly. Please note that this shift may require some lifting, as share-boxes are brought forward. The load should be limited to one share-box at a time. However closing will also require folding, lifting & storing of any tables & chairs used. The collecting of remaining shares will be done by the entity agreeing to that collection.
