Green Thumb Farm

Green Thumb Farm is a family-run organic farm located in Water Mill, Long Island. The Halsey family has operated the farm for more than 300 years, and is committed to sustainable and ethical agricultural practices  that ensure that their land will remain bountiful for generations to come. Green Thumb Farm is certified fully organic by the Northeast Organic Farming Association, depends on traditional farming techniques like crop rotation,  and uses many non-hybrid seeds. The farm produces nearly 150 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, all hand-harvested by farmhands paid a living wage

In the late 1970s, the Halsey family began to experiment with organic and other sustainable farming techniques. Over the decades, the family devoted an increasing percentage of their land to organic crops, from 3% in 1978 to 100% today. Green Thumb Farm has supplied Cobble Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods with fresh produce through the Cobble Hill CSA since 1996.

Today, the next generation of Halseys has begun to play an increasing role in the operation of Green Thumb Farm and the Cobble Hill CSA. The Halseys continue to farm because they value being able to raise their children in a rural environment, to produce on land that has been in the family for generations, and to preserve and improve the land for future generations.
